‘Bikes for Tikes’ drive sponsored by CJ Club now under way

The second Annual Bikes for Tikes Campaign sponsored by GSU criminal justice students will continue through Dec. 17.
The students are asking for donations of bikes that are new or in need of repairs. Lifers at David Wade Correctional Facility in Homer will do repairs where needed.
Bring bikes to the Grambling State Police Department or Ruston Police Department. Dr. Dotremon, criminal justice professor, is heading this effort.

Black legislators to hold Bayou Classic Scholarship Brunch

The Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus and the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus Foundation will hold its 24th Annual Bayou Classic Scholarship Jazz Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 29. It will be held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel in Grand Ballrooms A-C.
The brunch serves as a fundraiser for LLBC and an informational forum for its constituents.

United Campus Ministry seeking gifts for its Angel Tree project

Gifts for United Campus Ministry’s annual Angel Tree project should be brought to Robinson Residence Hall no later than Dec. 1.
The project provides gifts for children who have a parent incarcerated. There are 100 children and 50 families who will benefit from the Angel Tree project.

Dr. Helen Richards Smith symposium to be held Monday

The culminating event for American Education Week is the Dr. Helen Richards Smith Teaching and Learning Symposium. The event will be held 6 p.m. to 7:40 p.m. Monday in the Black and Gold Room of Favrot Student Union.
The occasion is to pay tribute to Dr. Richards Smith for her continuous contributions to education. Results of the research projects course will be presented during the symposium.

Roast and Toast for band director and football coach set for Nov. 29

You are invited to celebrate GSU’s victory over Southern with GSU alumni, family and friends following the Bayou Classic at 7:30 p.m. in the J.W. Marriott Hotel’s Ile De France Ballroom, 614 Canal St. in New Orleans.
The evening will begin with a Pre-Roast for Dr. Larry Pannell and Toast to Coach Broadway for continuing the GSU band and football legacies. The evening will end with an Ole School Dance featuring DJ Jube starting at 9:30 p.m.
The fee is $25 per person. Attire is casual chic, and proceeds will benefit GSU.

Grambling State student drivers being sought to drive golf carts

Responsible students are being sought to serve as golf cart drivers.
Applications are available in Room 210 of Favrot Student Union. A resume, transcript and a recommendation, in addition to other documentation, will be required. Interested students are asked to apply as soon as possible.

New faculty, staff reception

An informal reception will be held for new faculty and staff on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Black and Gold Room of the Favrot Student Union.
Light refreshments will be served, which is hosted by President Horace A. Judson.
There will also be a brief discussion of plans to measure the economic impact GSU has on the community and the region.

Flashy, classy 2008 fashion show set for Sunday, November 9

An A and J Fashion Show will take place Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Campus Community Worship Center at 6 p.m. The center is located on 1000 Sartoga St. in Ruston.
The show will highlight the latest fashion trends such as GUCCI, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Chanel.
